Pilot Knob State Nature Preserve protects approximately 742 acres in Powell County, Kentucky. Its summit includes Boone’s Overlook, a sandstone outcrop traditionally associated with Daniel Boone’s 1769 exploration of Kentucky. Visitors can hike to the summit for scenic views or explore the historic Millstone Quarry Trail. The preserve also supports native woodland habitats and provides opportunities for nature study, birdwatching, and geology exploration. The summit hike is strenuous because of the elevation gain.
