This is a Grade A to A+ arch (very large arch, created by the collapse of a back end of a very large rock shelter). There is an official trail to the arch with a Class 1.1 hike (easy hike over 1 mile, mostly flat). Since the trail starts in the Whittleton Campground, you have ample parking and access to a great restroom.
A small section of the trail use to go over borders and continue in the creek until you turned off of the trail and traveled to the arch; if you continued straight, you would end up at hwy 15 at the Auxier Ridge bridge over Mountain Parkway. I have started my hike to Whittleton Arch from there once and it’s quite nice Class 1.2 hike (easy hike over 2 mile). Today, the trail takes you around that climbing section (plus its very difficult to maintain a trail inside of a creek bed), but now the trail climbs several dozen feet before you are routed back to the turn-off to the arch.
The Grade B- Henson’s Cave Arch is separate trail starting at the campground. It’s short enough to lessen the disappointment you get when you reach the ‘cave arch’…
